Grand Forks Baseball

Update - 3/27/20
Baseball family,
We wanted to let all of you know that we are thinking of you and your families. Everyone is in this together and it has been great to see us all on the same team. Grand Forks is blessed to have a community full of generous people willing to help in a time of need. We will win this war vs COVID-19. We feel we are winning and hope that we do not go into extra innings.
We plan on keeping you all updated on any changes with our program as we continue to monitor the rapidly changing situation. Our plan is to send out an email and update the website toward the end of each week. These messages will contain the latest updated information regarding our baseball program.
The start of the baseball season remains unclear and is suspended until further notice.  The Park District has extended the closure of their facilities until at least April 6th.  Given this extension, and watching the latest developments with the pandemic, we will not have an indoor baseball season.  The start of our baseball season will be dependent on 2 factors:
1) Weather (when the fields are ready after the snowmelt).
2) The status of the pandemic (when we can safely play baseball).
Given this information, we anticipate that the season will likely start at some point during May and that we will be able to provide a competitive league as we have in previous years. Although the start date for baseball is unclear, we will play baseball and have no intention of canceling the season.  Once we do return to baseball activity, we will work with the park district to make sure all facilities are safe and provide a healthy environment.
Until the season does start, and during this time of isolation we need to remain positive. Look at this as an opportunity to teach life lessons.  We can teach our kids many qualities that will ensure success in life, such as how to deal with disappointment, how to be resilient in the face of adversity, how to persevere, how to stay positive. We can be leaders for our kids and remind them that although they miss being together on the field that this is bigger than sports.  Encourage your kids to use this opportunity to bear down on their studies, reorganize priorities, and spend quality time with family. These are opportunities we may miss one day, and when this is over, we will look back and appreciate life even more.
One of the best ways to remain positive is to remain physically active. Physical activity is a great way to stay healthy physically, emotionally and more importantly mentally. We have developed a webpage to help and provide some ideas to accomplish this goal, please visit:  We want you and your children to come out of this social distancing healthier and mentally stronger than ever.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. We are here to help.
Update - 3/20/20
We value our indoor practice sessions and are planning to restart as soon as we are safely able to. The health and safety of all those involved is our #1 priority.
We continue to monitor the situation. At this time the exact start to the season is unclear.  We do know that the start of the season will be delayed. We also recognize that many of our members are likely experiencing financial hardships due to social distancing.  Given the current situation we wanted to let you know that we plan on adjusting registration fees and providing partial refunds.  The exact adjustment of the registration fee will be determined at a later time.
We fully intend to have our outdoor baseball season. Please continue to register and spread the word of our intentions. Registration has been extended to April 30. Getting outside to enjoy summer baseball is just what we need in the current situation we are in.  We appreciate your patience and understanding and look forward to seeing you all at the ballparks soon.
Update - 3/17/20
Grand Forks Youth Baseball activities will be suspended through at least March 31st.  The Grand Forks Park district has closed a majority of their facilities including Gambucci Arena.  Here is an excerpt from the March 17th Park District Press release:  “Per the recommendation of the U.S. Center for Disease Control (CDC) and ND Governor Burgum to avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people, the Grand Forks Park District’s public facilities and programs will be closed March 18 – March 31.  While the Park District Administrative Office will remain open, public facilities with heavy traffic, such as Choice Health & Fitness and the ice arenas, will close to the public until the end of March.”
The Grand Forks Youth Baseball Association will continue to monitor the situation and make decisions on the facts with health and safety in mind.  We are discussing possible options and plan to provide updates via our website and Facebook page regarding the future of the 2020 youth baseball season.  There are a couple decisions that we’ve made so far:
  1. We are extending the registration deadline for the 2020 season to April 30th.
  2. The pitching, catching, and hitting Gambucci spring clinics are cancelled.  Refunds for these clinics will be issued to those that have signed up.
We are also working on some guidance for what players can do at home to practice baseball during the pandemic.
